Project 1 - Thousand Winged LIAIEL

Artist Statement:

This series of images imagines cosmic power in a humanistic mind. LIAIEL (/ˈlaɪ.eɪ.ɛl/) is much more a part of this universe than any human, but he still understands the importance of humans to the universe. His fears are existential, but he also fears becoming irrelevant. These images amplify our personal emotions, human fears, and wildest dreams, and turn them into matters of epic importance. This is accomplished by the grand scale and the use of space imagery.

LIAIEL specifically exists somewhere in the space between demon and angel, and inexorably intertwines good and bad intentions. This aspect of the images explores the philosophies of virtue ethics and consequentialism.

The use of bold pink colors in several of the images emphasizes power, both of LIAIEL and of the humans he dismisses out of fear, while LIAIEL's symbol brings the ideas of light and freedom to the pieces. He is thus used as a foil to humanity.
